Update on short term accommodation options feedback survey

Following the presentation on rising rolls and the effects on SMPS at the end of September, the accommodation sub-committee sought the views of the parents and carers on the two interim options offered by the council. These have been collated and sent to the council. Together with a simple tally of preferences, opinions and concerns have also been reviewed and tabulated and can be view in the following spreadsheet:

Accommodation Presentation Feedback Sept 2014

The overwhelmingly preferred option would be the use of Deanbank as a new annexe. More outdoor space and decreased pressure on the facilities in the main school site were highlighted. Key concerns highlighted were the potential distances and traffic between the sites.

Rising school rolls presentation slides

On Monday 29th September an open meeting was held at the school where two, short-term options for coping with the rising school roll were presented. You can view the presentation slides online.

It is hugely important for us as parents to make our voice heard and the parent council wants to make sure it represents the views of all parents.

If you want to provide feedback on either option, please get in touch with us via email or in writing via the South Morningside Parent Council mailbox by the office addressed to “The Accommodation Group”.

Rising Rolls Presentation: Monday 29th September

Date/Time: 7pm, Mon 29th Sept
Location: School Main Hall

We would like to invite parents and carers to a presentation and Q&A session on future accommodation plans at the school.

The session will provide details of the impact of rising school rolls, the constraints at our school, and the options that exist for dealing with the situation.

The proposed interim solutions will be presented this will address accommodation pressures by August 2015.

We would like to take this opportunity to share the work that the Rising Rolls Working Group has undertaken over the past year but also get feedback and comments from the wider school community.

The Q&A session will be supported by a panel from the Rising Rolls Working Group, including:

  • Mrs Grierson (Headteacher)
  • Crawford McGhee and Robbie Cochrane (Asset Planning Team, City of Edinburgh Council)
  • Craig Hilton and Anna Cuthbert (The Parent Council / Accommodation Group)
  • Margo O’Connor (School Business Manager)

This is an ideal opportunity for parents & carers to ask questions and discuss this complex topic, which is crucial to the future of our school.

We look forward to seeing you on the 29th.

20mph Speed Limit Consultation

A consultation is underway to help draw up plans for new 20 mph speed limits across Edinburgh. Following a successful pilot in South Edinburgh, a 20 mph speed limit is now proposed for the City Centre, main shopping streets and residential areas.

Whatever your views about our 20 mph speed limit proposals, we want to hear from you. You can email your views to the address below or use the online questionnaire. Drop-in events, public meetings and exhibitions are also taking place across the city.

An interactive map of the draft proposals, a list of frequently asked questions and details of the engagement events are available on the Council’s website at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/20mph.

Please forward this email to any contacts that you feel would be interested in making their views heard on the proposals. The consultation is open and you can feedback until 17 October.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome

Welcome to the new website of the South Morningside Primary School Parent Council. We have set up this website to enable better communication with parents, which is a fundamental part of achieving the objectives below: Parent Councils are representative bodies for parents and have the following roles:

  • Support the school in its work with pupils
  • Represent the views of all parents
  • Encourage links between the school, parents, pupils, pre-school groups and the wider community
  • Report back to all parents in the school
  • Play a role in the appointment of headteachers and deputy headteachers
  • Support the school and pupils during inspections

Parent Council meetings are open to all parents. The last meeting of the Parent Council was on Monday June 9th 2014. The date of the next meeting will be advertised soon. The site includes records of all Parent Council activities, dates of forthcoming events and links to information about the school. The school has it’s official website at South Morningside Primary School and contains a wealth of information about the school and school activities.
