Children are taught the basics of knitting and are given a folder which contains stages for them to work towards. Each child works on their own project and to their own ability.
Who, When & Where:
Thursdays 3.30pm to 4.30pm. In the main school (room to be notified when joining).
Age range P3 to P7- all ages in the same class. There are a maximum of 10 children in the class so that each child gets individual attention.
The class runs every term.
Only children attending an after school club are allowed in the school building after 3:30pm and are only permitted in the allocated Club room. Children must be signed in and out by the After School Care Club person on door duty OR by the individual club alternative. Parents/carers should drop & collect children outside the school’s main door and not accompany children in to the school.
Club Convenors: Sarah Hyland and Jayne Scotland
Club email: knitting-club@sm-pc.org or smpsknittingclub@outlook.com
Tutor: Janis Clinton from ‘Knitting for All’. She is an experienced knitter and part time Chemistry teacher. www.knittingforall.com
Allocation of spaces: There is a waiting list. Priority for each term is given to existing students who are building up their skills. Open places will be offered to children on the waiting list in the order they applied.
Club Convenor’s children are always given a priority place in the club. Please contact the Club Convenor should you wish to take advantage of this privilege by offering to take on this position in future.
Cost: This was £3.50 per session in 2017. Costs for the whole term are confirmed at the beginning of the term based on the number of sessions. There is also a one time starting fee of £6.50 for needles bag and folder. A standard amount of yarn is supplied and children can bring their own yarn if they run out or buy some more from the tutor (eg if they have finished off their project at home).
A child’s space is not guaranteed until payment is received. All payment is due PRIOR to clubs starting. Failure to do so could result in your child not being admitted in to the club.
Cheques are to be written to SMPC, envelopes marked ‘Knitting Club’ & posted in the Clubs Box by the Janitor’s Office (Main School) or by Reception (Deanbank).
Parent Volunteers required: No
Refunds: Very occasionally classes need to be cancelled (e.g. instructor sickness). SMPC policy is that refunds will only be given in exceptional circumstances at the individual club’s discretion as offering refunds when this happens involves a lot of work for relatively small amounts of money. If, after accepting & paying for a place, your child subsequently does not take the place / drops out / changes their mind, a refund will not be given.
Parents are kindly reminded that SMPC Clubs only operate thanks to a school parent who volunteers to act as Club Convenor & run the administrative side of the club. Parents are requested to respect the efforts of each Club Convenor.
