What is coding? Coding can be defined as writing instructions for computers and other hardware. The computer is then able to read the instructions and do what you have asked it to do.
This club is a fun way to learn coding for those with little/no experience. It is for P7s only. It will help grow programming skills by building games using Scratch. Participants can work at their own pace with plenty of help, having lots of fun along the way.
Code Club is led by Ellie Trotter, who is a parent volunteer, ably assisted by some senior pupils from Boroughmuir High School.
Please note the club does not run in the summer term due to the number of Monday holidays and end of school activities.
Places are limited based on number of Boroughmuir pupil volunteers we can recruit (and get through PVG) in time for club starting. Therefore we will allocate on first-come, first-serve basis and may be able to add places later in the term.
If any parents have a Parent Council PVG and are willing to support the supervision arrangements on a rota basis (no requirement to do any coding) then their child will be allocated a space to ensure the club can operate.
Contact code-club@sm-pc.org for more information.
Refunds: Very occasionally classes need to be cancelled (e.g. instructor sickness). SMPC policy is that refunds will only be given in exceptional circumstances at the individual club’s discretion as offering refunds when this happens involves a lot of work for relatively small amounts of money. If, after accepting & paying for a place, your child subsequently does not take the place / drops out / changes their mind, a refund will not be given.
SMPC Code of Conduct
Parents are kindly reminded that SMPC Clubs only operate thanks to a school parent who volunteers to act as Club Convenor & run the administrative side of the club. Parents are requested to respect the efforts of each Club Convenor.
