The Pipe Band Chanter Club introduces children from P3 and above to playing the chanter with a view to them progressing to the bagpipes after approx 3-4 years playing. There are lots of opportunities for performance in competitions, fairs and concerts once pupils are playing the pipes with the Boroughmuir Pipe Band.
Who, When & Where: P4 – P7 – Wednesday (main school)- classes run from 3:30-5:00pm
All classes have a maximum of 6 students per class.
Only children attending an after school club are allowed in the school building after 3:30pm and are only permitted in the allocated Club room. Children must be signed in and out by the After School Care Club person on door duty OR by the individual club alternative. Parents/carers should drop & collect children outside the school’s main door and not accompany children in to the school.

Allocation of spaces: New pupils are invited to contact the Club Convenor who will provide a Club Registration form and information on appropriate class vacancies. Priority is given to existing club members allowing members to build on their knowledge.
Club Convenor’s children are always given a priority place in the club. Please contact the Club Convenor should you wish to take advantage of this privilege by offering to take on this position in future.
Cost: Lessons are approx £6 for 1/2 hour (depending on class sizes). All students are also required to purchase a Chanter & book/CD pack to follow the course at a cost of approx £37.
A child’s space is not guaranteed until payment is received. All payment is due PRIOR to clubs starting. Failure to do so could result in your child not being admitted in to the club.
Cheques are to be written to SMPC, envelopes marked ‘Chanter Club’ & posted in the Clubs Box by the Janitor’s Office (Main School).
Parent Volunteers required: NO
Refunds: Very occasionally classes need to be cancelled (e.g. instructor sickness). SMPC policy is that refunds will only be given in exceptional circumstances at the individual club’s discretion as offering refunds when this happens involves a lot of work for relatively small amounts of money. If, after accepting & paying for a place, your child subsequently does not take the place / drops out / changes their mind, a refund will not be given.
Parents are kindly reminded that PC Clubs only operate thanks to a school parent who volunteers to act as Club Convenor & run the administrative side of the club. Parents are requested to respect the efforts of each Club Convenor.
